New Zealand Adds a Short-Term Graduate Visa From November 2026
From 16 November 2026, graduates of NZQCF Level 5–7 qualifications who miss standard Post Study Work Visa eligibility can get a new 6-month Short-Term Graduate Work Visa. It's a narrow, purpose-built bridge — not a substitute for the longer post-study work rights offered elsewhere — and knowing exactly who it's for is the difference between a useful safety net and a mismatched study plan.
What the new visa is for
Some certificate and diploma graduates fall outside the main Post-Study Work Visa settings. The short-term product gives those graduates a limited period to gain experience or arrange next steps.
