About Ireland
The Republic of Ireland, located in Northwest Europe, is the second-largest island in the British Isles and the third-largest in Europe. It is separated from the UK by the Irish Sea and North Channel, with the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Celtic Sea to the south.
Known as the Emerald Isle for its lush green landscapes, Ireland blends modern cities with unspoiled countryside and rich natural habitats. It covers 84,421 sq. km, with 83% forming the Republic and the rest in Northern Ireland. It ranks as the 20th largest island globally.
Ireland has a mild oceanic climate with frequent rainfall, supporting dense vegetation. Winters (Dec–Feb) are cold but not freezing, spring (Mar–May) is cool and becomes milder by May, summer (Jun–Aug) is sunny and mild (17–20°C), and autumn (Sep–Nov) is rainy and cloudy.
Irish culture has influenced the world through its literature, music, Gaelic games, and more. It shares many cultural similarities with the UK, such as the English language and sports. Ireland is home to major global companies in finance, ICT, pharmaceuticals, and gaming, including Google, Microsoft, and Medtronic.
